A-Jousting we will go

This Sunday was spent at an international riding tournament held on the grounds of Uppsala Castle. While waiting for the jousting to begin, we walked through the booths selling medieval jewelry...

...your-name-in-runes armbands...

...and free archery lessons:

The main event involved horses and riders from Sweden, the UK and Canada riding towards each other with lances extended. In this shot you can see a lance shattering upon impact:

In between rounds the combatants paraded around the grounds:

The costuming on many of the jousters was pretty elaborate:
