Just had a delicious meal at an Austrian restaurant in Berlin, Ottenthal. This is new-style Austrian -- tastes great, less wurst. We began with the Geeiste Gurkensuppe (auf Kefirbasis) mit hausgebeiztem Lachs (Chilled cucumber kefir soup with marinated salmon) and moved on to the Hausgemachte Gemsenwürsterl mit Erdäpfel- und Erbsenpüree, Eierschwammerln, Wildkräuterpesto und Marillenröster mit Wasabi (Small sausages of chamois with potatoes and peas purée chanterelles, wild herbs pesto and stewed apricots).
Other noteworthy events have included a €3.90 Iced Grande Chai Latte at the Potsdamer Platz Starbucks -- one of the many outposts of the Seattle chain which seem to have sprung up in the city.
The culinary highlight of the trip so far, however, is unquestionably the currywurst experience -- a sausage smothered with powdered spices and hot sauce. I have the receipt to prove I survived this Berlin initiation ritual.
