Saturday was the first full day of classes on Tjörn, after dinner I set off with Chip, Ralitsa, Claes, and Maja to bike to the beach at Rörastrand. On our way to the north side of the island we had two casualties: Maja's front tire and Chip's left pedal. We temporarily abandoned Maja's bike outside Kållekärr and had her hitch a ride on the back of Chip's cycle, which lasted until one of his pedals gave up the ghost. He continued on by pushing his left foot against the remaining metal bar, while Maja switched rides to Claes. We were wondering how many bikes we'd have left when we arrived, but an explanation was forthcoming on the last stretch of the journey, a narrow winding road through people's backyards: a traffic caution sign notified all that this particular road was olycksdrabbade: beset by unluckiness.
