SI Lärokurs på Tjörn

This spring Ralitsa and I applied for the Swedish Institute's summer teacher training course on Tjörn, an island off the west coast of Sweden near Gothenburg. Today we received word that we both got in -- along with Chip, a friend who's a new professor at a Utah university.

I was on Tjörn in 2002, when I took the above picture of the stone church. That time I was a language student, attending a course which overlapped with the teacher training course I'm taking now. Ralitsa did the same course a year later, so this summer will be a return to Tjörn for both of us.

The Institute has lined up a bunch of guest speakers, including some I recognize from 2002: Bosse Thorén on pronunciation and phonetics. Others are new: the young Malmö author Marjaneh Bakhtiari, whose book Kalla det vad van du vill (Call it Whatever the Hell You Want) has been on my list of books to read for a while. Guess I'll have to do that before the end of July...
