Great article about the long, twisted path towards Windows Mobile running on the Treo 700.
Over the summer I worked in an office with a metric ton of Windows Mobile devices, and while they weren't all gems, there's enough hardware diversity to satisfy nearly everyone. Treo just adds one more form-factor to the mix.
See also my previous rant on the mangled split of Pa1mØne/PalmSource... Clontzman and I sent each other a CNN.com article yesterday with the following juicy quote:
There were also missteps, not the least of which was acquiring Be Inc. in 2001. PalmSource wanted the Be operating system to help it provide multimedia applications to compete with those offered by Microsoft. But PalmSource's product, called Cobalt, took two years to develop and upon its rollout has been largely ignored by the major handheld makers. "It fell on its face," Kort said. "Buying Be has taken them down the path to destruction."
