In between books on my reading list I'm restoring a circa 1974 record player to life. This primarily involves cleaning it and tracking down a rather obscure cartridge, but in the meantime since I had it open I thought I'd take a picture.
The whole thing weighs about 25lbs, primarily because of the very massive metal platter and die-cast chassis. The other oddity is a Swiss motor that drives the turntable belt. This motor works on alternating current, which explains the large capacitors visible in the lower left which generate the signalling for AC.
