Next Quarter

My professor writes to the students she's teaching next quarter:

Dear All,

SCAND 505 for Winter Quarter 2005 will be most depressing. We will focus on THE dominating theme in Scandinavian Drama and Film during the entire 20th century: The disintegrating patriarchal family.

We will start with Strindberg's
The Dance of Death, and contiune with Ibsen, Hedda Gabler, Lars Norén'sDetaljer, or Som Löven i Vallombrosa; Fosse's Susanna; Enquist's Bildmakarna; Lagerlöf's Körkarlen; Ingmar Bergman's Saraband; and the final blow: Tomas Vinterberg's Festen.

Peter Wahlquist, Cultural Councillor at the Swedish Embassy in Washington, DC and former Director of Stockholms Stadsteater (for 10 years) will give two guest lectures at the end of February.

Do not say that you were not forewarned.
