No, that's not the new Starbucks cup size -- it's what we're studying in Italian. Every time you have a prepostion (in, from, with, to, etc) that abuts a definite article, you have to perform a complicated act of transformation. Viz:

Strangely, the indefinite articles do not cause articulation, unlike in Portuguese [em + um/a = num/a].
